Jingle Bells Written Lyrics

Dashing through the snow

On a one horse open sleigh

O'er the fields we go,

Laughing all the way

Bells on bobtail ring,

making spirits bright

What fun it is to laugh and sing

A sleighing song tonight

Oh, jingle bells, jingle bells

Jingle all the way

Oh, what fun it is to ride

In a one horse open sleigh

Jingle bells, jingle bells

Jingle all the way

Oh, what fun it is to ride

In a one horse open sleigh

Jingle Bells Songs for Children

History and Origin

As per common reports, a plaque at 19 High Street in the center of Medford Square, Massachusetts, is believed to be the birthplace of “Jingle Bells,” claiming that Pierpont wrote the song in 1850.

This song was originally copyrighted in 1857 with the name ‘The One Horse Open Sleigh.’ The melody was dedicated to John P.Ordway, Esq.

Since its release, the song has been immensely popular and was first recorded in 1889.

During the pre-automobile days in New England, horses were adorned with harnesses and straps bearing bells to avoid crashing at blind intersections as a horse-drawn sleigh in snow almost do not make any noise.

The rhythm of the song’s tune depicts the trotting of a horse’s bells. Moreover, “Jingle Bell” commonly means a certain kind of bell.
